Three reasons why you can’t miss ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’
Celebrating 25 years of excellence, Dharma Productions returns with its latest offering ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’, which marks the return of Karan Johar as director after a gap of seven years. The film has got off to a good start at the ticket window globally. BizAsiaLive.com looks at three reasons you cannot miss the romantic-family drama.
Chemistry of Ranveer Singh & Alia Bhatt
Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt are the backbone of this film. The quest to reunite their grandparents paves the way for romance between Rocky and Rani and the challenges they face when they house swap for three months. Ranveer, known as the extrovert, flamboyant and colourful actor that he is, plays Rocky so well. In this film, the actor has the correct balance of comedy as the ditzy Rocky in the first half, then switching to a more emotional Rocky post the interval. Alia plays the role of a Bengali girl with such ease and comfort. She recites some Bengali dialogues, which again look so effortless. Her look in the film impresses again. Ranveer and Alia together have some sizzling scenes, with Rocky keen on commitment and settling down in the relationship, while Rani is portrayed as the one who just wants a lighter relationship. How they overcome this, makes it an interesting watch.
The return of the legends on the big screen
Jaya Bachchan stays true to her portrayal as the stern woman that we see in front of the Indian paps. She plays the head of Rocky’s family comfortably, who isn’t afraid to be painted with a negative brush. Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi still retain their golden space on screen, with some interesting “retro” vibes throughout the movie. There’s also a surprise romantic clinch between the two that will get cinemagoers gasping! Screenplay is written effortlessly, with a focus on each character well done.
The successful chart toping music
The music of the film has done well, with ‘Tum Kya Mile’ easily the stand-out song. Despite the Dharma Productions stamp and Pritam composition, other songs have unable to reach the same heights. ‘What Jhumka’ works but this and a couple of other songs could have easily been removed, to cut the length of the film. ‘Kudmayi’ – a song by Shahid Mallya, is yet to release as an audio version but surprises in the end as a beautifully written and composed wedding track.
