Single Music Review: Dil Galti Kar Baitha Hai (Jubin Nautiyal, Meet Bros)

Gulshan & Bhushan Kumar’s new production is a romantic single with the music of Meet Bros and the soulful vocals of Jubin Nautiyal. On a high with many romantic hits to his credit, Dil Galti Kar Baitha Hai is taking Nautiyal beyond his Bollywood success and placing him as an individual artist. The video is doing the rounds on music channels and clocking high views online featuring the stunning Mouni Roy as Nautiyal’s love interest. The production has a strong wedding vibe to it even in its music and that filters through into the video sets & thematic as well.

The music has an easy sombre feel to it more on the traditional classical style which is totally not the style Meet Bros are known for. The over reliance on dholak, shehnai, harmonium, rabaab, accordion give it a very 80s-90s sound touch even though the music is full of lovely instruments that have been well arranged. The composition is a Bollywood ghazal style with a touch of sufi to it which is exactly what works well for Nautiyal’s vocal style & strength. But the by-product is that the song lands up sounding quite dated here. The arrangement has a good progression to it in the typical qawali format but that lands up pushing the song more down the dated perspective. Vocals are great and one doesn’t expect anything less from Nautiyal but they are not incredible enough to make it very memorable. Supporting sufi vocals by Danish Sabri seem quite a waste too almost like a chorus here. Lyrics by Manoj Muntashir are the real deal here. There is something different about the poetry here with a very strong & memorable chorus. The stanza’s have an emotive flow to it but casually light and never overbearing. The feelings presented are well balanced and thus relatable for everyone as the heart slips out of control into love at that first sight.

Good lyrics are the best part of this song but beyond that the rest is quite average. The dated sound goes against it. Meet Bros do deserve some credit for going away from their regular dance numbers work and producing something for a different TG as this song is more classically sound. Even though there is nothing wrong with the music or vocals, this is more for a discerning mature listener rather than all the young masses falling in love with Nautiyal’s songs.
