Owner of Daily Mirror & Daily Express axes over 500 jobs

Reach, the owner of the Daily Mirror and the Daily Express has confirmed culling over 500 jobs due to the fall in circulation and advertising revenue.

The group, which also operates Daily Star, OK! Magazine and a number of regional newspapers, will be reducing its workforce by 12% – equating to 550 jobs.

Jim Mullen was cited on BBC Online saying, “To meet these challenges and to accelerate our customer value strategy, we have completed plans to transform the business and are ready to begin the process of implementation.

“Regrettably, these plans involve a reduction in our workforce and we will ensure all impacted colleagues are treated with fairness and respect throughout the forthcoming consultation process.”
